How rough is the Tanami track?

The Tanami Track runs from Halls Creek to Alice Springs over approximately 1000km, of which about 800kms is dirt (the last section from just past Yuendumu is now sealed road). We took three nights on the track, but you could realistically do it in two if you’re pushed for time.
Where can I camp in Tanami?
Plenty of free-camping options on the Tanami.
- Diggers Rest: Open space, plenty of birdlife and apparently some local wild camels frequent the area.
- Renahans Bore: An old windmill added a great touch to sunset.
- Quartz Ridge: A lunch stop for us with a gorgeous 360-degree view of the desert – and Telstra service!
Is the Tanami track suitable for caravans?
It is recommended nonetheless for 4WD vehicles, and not for onroad caravans or trailers. The road, which is sometimes closed after rain, can still be rough and corrugated and is generally best travelled between May and October.

No fuel available at Balgo or Billiluna communities only Halls Creek. This is due to covid-19 Remote Aboriginal Community Directions (No. 3) put in place by the WA State Government.
Is the road to Wolfe Creek sealed?
Cairns, Australia Decided to drive to Wolfe Creek Crater for the day from Halls Creek. Access is via the Tanami Rd which is an unsealed road which can be corrugated in parts. The Crater is approx 130km from the sealed Great Northern Hwy.
